This process is a key part of making these Bali rattan bags, as it hardens the material, making it more durable, and gives the rattan bag its toasty brown color. It is also the signature of an authentic Bali rattan bag. If you purchase a rattan purse and no aroma is present, it may be a knockoff that was painted brown to look authentic.
